The Doorway to Understanding
Rock Solid Remodeling enjoys helping our customers find the products which best suit them. Want to get a head start on your door shopping? Here's some information to help you out:
There are three most common types of doors: Wood, Steel, and Fiberglass.
Wood doors are the most classy, most aesthetic, and most pricey. They do fade over time and will require maintenace. Exposer to weather requires a storm door. However, they are energy efficient, durable, and long lasting. The most important thing to remember is that if you're going with a wood door- you get what you pay for. Stay away from cheap, because it will soon disappoint.
Steel doors are very low maintenance, the least expensive option, and very popular on the market. When looking at steel doors, you need to know that the higher the gauge, the thinner the steel. For example, 24 gauge steel is only good for a temporary solution. It will not last, but will rust and chip, sooner rather than later. But a 22 guage door will not bend or flex, holds paint well, and can simulate a wood grain door. Thicker than 22 guage is for commercial and security use.
Fiberglass doors are newer on the market and have proven themselves well. They are low maintenance, strong, and secure. They can have a wood grain look and do not scratch or dent easily. You do not need to worry about mold, rust, or deterioration with fiberglass doors. It is important to know that if you're trying to go inexpensive, fiberglass is not the material to do that with. An upper-mid to high quality fiberglass door is a must.
